Habits add up

The effect on your health of any particular cigarette you smoke, the chances of it being the one which kills you is very, very small. Almost zero. But the accumulation of each cigarette on top of the other over many years means a much bigger effect. Nobody is better off because they smoked over many years. Habits add up.

The effect on your health of any particular workout you do, the chances of it being the one which saves your life one day is very, very small. Almost zero. But the accumulation of each workout on top of the other over many years means a much bigger effect. Nobody is worse off because they worked out over many years. Habits add up.

Habits add up. Are you adding to bad habits, or good?

We suggest the following habits, which we believe will have the biggest impact on a person’s quality of life and longevity. They match what we’re told by doctors and most studies, assuming you currently live a typical Western lifestyle. Obviously there are always more things you can do; this is a start.

  1. Have friends
  2. If smoking, stop.
  3. Screens off 2130, lights out 2230.
  4. eat more fresh vegetables and fruit
  5. eat more beans and fish
  6. 10,000 steps a day outside

Habits add up. We’ll talk more about these habits in future.
